How to read a wallet's history across coins (and spot smart money)
Two wallets each hold 2% of a coin. One has bought forty earlier coins and most of them ran. The other has bought forty earlier coins and most of them went to zero. Same balance, very different holder. The difference is the wallet's history.
How Whodl builds a wallet's record
Every coin Whodl scans adds its top holders to a graph. Over time, many wallets show up on many coins. For each wallet Whodl records which coins it held, when it got in, and what each coin did afterwards. From that it labels:
- Smart money: a wallet with a winning record on three or more earlier coins Whodl tracked, at least half of which later peaked 3x.
- Busted wallets: wallets whose earlier coins mostly fell 90% or more.
- Crews: groups of wallets that keep appearing together on the same coins.
How common they are
Across not enough data yet coins with wallet-history data:
- not enough data yet had at least one smart-money wallet among the top holders.
- not enough data yet had three or more.
- not enough data yet had at least one busted wallet.
Reading a wallet yourself
You can ask Whodl about any wallet. The wallet lens shows its coins, entries and how each ended. When reading one:
- Count the coins, not the wins. A wallet with two wins on two coins is not a record yet.
- Look at entry timing. A wallet that is always first in may be a sniper or the dev's own, not a skilled buyer. See insider wallets vs smart money.
- Look at exits. Did it sell near the top on earlier coins, or ride them down?
- Check its links. A "smart" wallet funded by the deployer is an insider with good results.
What smart money in a coin does and does not mean
It means wallets with a good record bought this coin. It does not mean they will hold, or that the coin will run; smart wallets sell quickly too. Whodl shows when each one entered and whether it has already sold.
The report on every coin page under coin reports lists the top holders with their history, and the daily news post shows where smart money showed up that day.
