Am I late to a coin? Five numbers that answer it
"Am I late?" is the most common question people ask about a coin that is already moving. The usual answer is a glance at the chart, which only tells you what happened to the price. The better answer comes from the wallets: when did the people holding now get in, what did they pay, and are they still there?
Whodl answers the question with five numbers on every coin page. Here is what they mean.
1. When the top wallets entered
Whodl times the first buy of each top wallet: in the last 24 hours, in the last week, or older. If 18 of the top 20 wallets arrived in the last day, the current holder base is new and untested. If most have held all week through a drawdown, the base is firmer.
2. What they paid
Entries are priced at the market cap when each wallet bought. The coin page shows the average entry market cap next to the current one. If the average top wallet entered near $400k and the coin is at $4M, those wallets are sitting on 10x and have every reason to take profit into your buy.
3. How many are in profit, and by how much
From the entries, Whodl counts how many of the priced buyers are in profit and reports the median multiple: "14 of 20 buyers in profit, median 3.2x". A high median multiple means a lot of latent selling; a median near 1x means the current holders are roughly where you would be.
4. New supply
What share of the supply is held by wallets that bought in the last 24 hours. A coin where 40% of the supply changed hands today has a lot of fresh money that will react to the next move; a coin where 5% is new has settled.
5. Who sold the top and who bought the dip
Whodl checks the week's price range and counts the top wallets that sold within 20% of the high, and the ones that bought within 20% of the low. Wallets that sold the top and still hold the rest are telling you where they think the ceiling is.
Putting it together
The coin page leads with these when you ask the bot "late?" about a coin. A rough reading:
| Picture | Reading |
|---|---|
| Most top wallets held all week, median multiple under 2x, little new supply | Not late in the holder sense; the base is stable |
| Most top wallets arrived today, median multiple over 5x, large new supply | The early money is deep in profit and the new money is nervous |
| Top wallets sold the high and still hold a lot | The sellers have a target and have not finished |
None of this says the price will fall. A coin can keep running with everyone in profit. What it tells you is who is positioned to sell into you, and how much they would make by doing it. Combine it with the "if they sell" estimate, which models the price drop if the top ten, the biggest linked group or the dev sold into the current pool.
Where the numbers come from
Every entry is a verified swap through a known router, timed by its block and priced from the pool at that moment. Balance changes alone are not counted as buys, because transfers between wallets are not purchases. The scan history on each coin page lets you see these numbers change over time.
Ask "late?" about any coin, or open it under coin reports.
